Working Hours at Westpac Group

How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
We work flexibly and there is discretion used in how long you are in the office. Long hours are common in some areas (Institutional Bank) but not in mine.

The company is very flexible with hours. In most teams - you are left alone to get things done by a deadline. Sometimes means easy hours but others there is definitely a crunch where you blow out the hours.

I work about 40 hours a week. There isn't a huge pressure to work late or on weekends, although I have had some late nights when wanting to complete certain projects. If I have ever had something come up where I need to step away from work for a little while, my managers are supportive and don't mind.

I work 38 hours per work, and they are pretty flexible with when these hours are completed - e.g. should I need to attend a doctors appointment they are happy for me to make that time back when convenient for me.

Westpac's overall approach is highly flexible towards when your hours are worked, although some teams (eg customer facing teams) are expected to work typical business hours. Transparency and communication with a manager on hours is key.

Flexible and depends on the team you are working on. I usually worked 9-5.30 when in the office and no one paid mind if you arrive earlier/later. Team does not mind if you need to leave early/come late due to an appointment. When WFM, I would normally work 8.30-5 and from what I've seen, manager does not keep an eagle eye on your hours and if you give them notice/reason, can always leave early/log on late.

I work too many hours, however this is largely my own choice. I like to get things done.

Very flexible, but depends on your manager

Reasonable working hours

I have never had a supervisor refuse a reasonable request to work flexibly.

9-5, occasionally a few hours over if a project deadline is approaching or a problem has popped up. Generally flexible with 'balancing out' your hours, and the focus is on 'getting done what you say you will' rather than making sure you're at your desk from 9-5.
